HND and HNC assignment help from FIZ Business Solutions (FIZBS) supports students on Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificates (HNC, Level 4) and Higher National Diplomas (HND, Level 5) at colleges and universities across the UK. Many of our requests come from business and management students, and our subject experts also cover health and social care, computing, engineering and hospitality.
Higher National assignments follow a very specific format. Each unit has learning outcomes with Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria, and your grade depends on which criteria your work clearly meets. Capable students sometimes miss a higher grade simply because one criterion was answered too briefly. Our experts help you see exactly what each criterion asks for and how to show it in your work.
Support starts from £20 per 1,000 words, and you can see your exact price in seconds with the instant calculator on our homepage.
HNC and HND explained
An HNC is a Level 4 qualification, usually made up of 120 credits and often studied over one year full time or two years part time. An HND is a Level 5 qualification of 240 credits. It is usually studied over two years full time and includes the Level 4 year plus a further year at Level 5.
Both qualifications are built around practical, work-related learning. Many students use an HND to progress into the final year of a related bachelor's degree, known as a top-up, while others move straight into work or a higher-level apprenticeship.
In Scotland, HNCs and HNDs are awarded by SQA and are assessed differently. This page focuses on Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals, although our experts can also help with SQA units.

Popular HND Business units, including MFRD
Students often look for help by the name of the unit. These are the business units we are asked about most. Unit titles and numbers vary between Pearson specifications and centres, so always follow your own assignment brief.
- Managing Financial Resources and Decisions (MFRD): sources of finance, budgeting, investment appraisal such as payback, ARR and NPV, and interpreting financial statements
- Management Accounting: costing methods, budgets and variance analysis, and using accounting information for decisions
- Business and the Business Environment: types of organisation, stakeholders, and PESTLE and SWOT analysis
- Marketing Processes and Planning: the marketing mix, segmentation and a marketing plan for a real organisation
- Human Resource Management: recruitment, training, employee relations and HR practice in a chosen organisation
- Management and Operations: leadership and management approaches and how operations are managed
- Managing a Successful Business Project: the Pearson-set project, from project plan and research to reflection
- Business Decision Making, and Organisations and Behaviour: using data for decisions, motivation, teams and culture
- Business Strategy and the Level 5 Research Project: strategic analysis and choice, and a small-scale research study
How Pass, Merit and Distinction grading works
Every unit is split into learning outcomes, usually labelled LO1 to LO4. Each learning outcome has Pass criteria (P1, P2 and so on), plus Merit (M) and Distinction (D) criteria that ask for more depth.
As a general rule, a Merit requires all the Pass and Merit criteria for the unit, and a Distinction requires all the Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria. If a single Pass criterion is missing, the unit cannot be achieved, however good the rest of the work is.
The verbs in each criterion tell you the level expected:
- Pass criteria often use verbs such as "explain", "describe" or "produce": show that you understand the topic accurately
- Merit criteria often use "analyse", "assess" or "compare": break ideas down, weigh up factors and support points with evidence
- Distinction criteria often use "critically evaluate" or "justify": reach balanced, well-supported judgements and recommendations
Resubmissions and Pearson-set units
Resubmission rules are set by Pearson and applied by your centre. In many cases a resubmitted assignment can only achieve a Pass, so it is worth getting the first submission right. If you have already received feedback, share it with us and an expert will explain what the assessor wants before you resubmit.
Some units, such as the business project unit in the business programmes, use a theme set by Pearson each year. Your centre turns that theme into an assignment brief, and our experts can help you understand the theme, choose a focus and plan your project.
How our experts help at each stage
You can ask for help with a whole assignment or only the criteria you are finding difficult. Here is how support typically fits in:
- Breaking down the brief: a criterion-by-criterion plan, so every P, M and D requirement has a clear place in your work
- Research and sources: suggestions of textbooks, journal articles and credible organisational data suited to Level 4 and 5 work
- Applying theory: guidance on models such as PESTLE, SWOT, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Belbin's team roles or Tuckman's stages of group development, and how to apply them to a real organisation
- Moving up a grade: feedback on how to turn description into analysis, and analysis into evaluation
- Presentations and reports: help structuring slides, speaker notes and business reports
- Final checks: proofreading from £12 per 1,000 words and Harvard referencing support
